About
Who is Digitary?
In operation for nearly two and a half decades, Digitary is a globally trusted online platform used by employers, education providers and government agencies in over 125 countries to verify the authenticity of degrees, transcripts, and other academic records online. Millions of students and graduates around the world use Digitary to access their verified academic records and share them with employers and others each year. Launched in Dublin, Ireland, in 2005, Digitary is now used by over 80 of the worlds top Higher Education Institutions to issue records to their learners.
What is Digitary CORE?
Digitary Certified Online Records Exchange (Digitary CORE).
“Digitary” was born from “digital” “notary”.
What records are available from Digitary online?
Digital transcripts, degree certificates and other official documents/statements are available to students and graduates of Digitary-enabled education providers.
Some organisations use Digitary to issue Police Clearance/Vetting statements, so that recipients can share them with employers to help streamline the vetting process.
How to do people get their academic records from Digitary?
Students and graduates from Digitary-enabled education institutions will receive an email notification once their records have been issued. The email will contain instructions on how they can logon to the Digitary CORE platform.
Learners from Australian and New Zealand Universities access their academic documents through the My eQuals portal rather than through Digitary CORE.
Who uses Digitary?
Over 80 of the world’s leading Higher Education institutions use Digitary technology to issue digitally verified degrees, transcripts, and other records to their students and graduates. To date, over two million digital records have been issued to over 1.5 million learners, who have shared them with employers, education providers, and government departments in over 125 countries around the world.
How does Digitary work?
Digitary only works with nationally accredited, legitimate education providers. Once they have signed up with Digitary, education providers issue various types of documents including degree certificates, transcripts through the platform according to their own policy and operational schedule. All records issued to learners are cryptographically signed for authenticity, tamper-evidence, and legal validity in line with EU legislation and ETSI technical standards.
Once issued, Learners receive an email notification that their certified documents are available online, along with login instructions. Learners login to Digitary CORE using the instructions from their education provider, where they get read-only access and share their verified achievements quickly and easily.
Whilst Learners cannot upload or modify their Digitary records in any way, they have full control over who they are shared with, and for how long, in line with GDPR requirements.
There are a variety of sharing methods, the most common is where Learners use Digitary to generate an individual “document share” URL that always points to their protected Digitary profile at Digitary Learner Portal This URL, once accessed by an employer, ensures they are receiving the verified record directly from the Digitary-enabled institution that issued it. Learners who share their records using the Digitary platform cannot upload or modify their records in any way.

Security
How can I trust documents from Digitary?
In order to preserve the integrity of our brand, Digitary only works with nationally accredited, legitimate education providers. So, not just anybody or any institution can issue academic records through the Digitary CORE platform.
Any document accessed through the Digitary CORE URL comes directly from the Digitary-enabled institution who issued it. Learners who share their records using the Digitary platform cannot upload or modify their records in any way.
Furthermore, all records issued to learners through Digitary are cryptographically signed using a key that is only accessible to officials of the education provider in question. This gives the records authenticity, tamper-evidence, and legal validity in line with international legislation and established technical standards.
These signed PDFs can be independently verified by opening them in the latest version of Adobe Reader. Viewed in Adobe Reader, a “blue ribbon” digital signature will appear at the top of the document indicating that is has been digitally signed by the named institution. This also means that the identity of the issuing institution has been independently verified by a trusted third party and that document has not been modified since it was issued.
For organisations who verify large volumes of Digitary records, we provide more advanced verification functionality.
For more information, please contact our enquiry lead here.
How long are documents issued through Digitary valid for?
This depends on the issuing organisation’s (e.g. education institution) policy. Degree certificates and final transcripts are life-long documents and do not expire. However, some documents, such as status letters, expire after a few months or years. When verifying a record, always ask the Learner to share a Digitary link with you that starts with the URL “https://core.digitary.net” and ensure that you follow the it to ensure a record has neither expired or been revoked by the issuer.
For organisations who verify large volumes of Digitary records, we provide more advanced verification functionality.
For more information, please contact our enquiry lead here.
Is Digitary’s technology based on open standards?
Yes. Digitary documents comply with relevant security standards in each geographical region, such as XAdES-A and PAdES-LTV from the European Technical Standards Institute.
Digitary also complies with Australian, Chinese and US certification standards. By adhering to these standards, Digitary provides the maximum level of security, legal validity of documents and data.
Digital signatures authenticated through Digitary are produced on FIPS 140-2 Level 3 cryptographic hardware devices, in dedicated, secure cloud infrastructures assigned to our vetted education institutions and organisations.
Can I search the Digitary database?
Not currently.
The most common method of verifying documents involves the Learner generating a secure URL that starts with “https://core.digitary.net.” Documents accessed this way come directly from the Digitary-enabled institution who issued it. Note that learners who share their records using the Digitary platform cannot upload or modify their records in any way.
For organisations who verify large volumes of Digitary records, clicking on individual URLs may not suit and so we provide more advanced verification functionality for these cases.

How does Digitary protect records in the long term?
Academic achievements are for life and Digitary takes a long-term view to the security of these records. We use advanced cryptographic functionality, based on open standards supported by ETSI, to ensure that the security of digital records have their cryptographic security periodically “upgraded”, without requiring any manual intervention.
This ensures that records stored in Digitary have up to date cryptographic protection, even decades after they have been issued, in the event that cryptographic algorithms become compromised through advances in code breaking and/or computing.
Legal
Are academic documents issued through Digitary recognised around the world?
Yes.
Digitary-issued documents contain Advanced Electronic Signatures (AES), which are regulated by the EU’s eIDAS standards 2016 and are compatible with digital signature standards around the world. These signatures can only be produced by authorised officials of the fully-vetted education institutions that we work with, and require the use of sophisticated cryptographic hardware devices in order to sign documents.
This provides an extremely high level of assurance and legal validity that documents are authentic, tamper evident, and undeniably credible.
Are Digitary documents recognised in non-EU countries?
The EU eIDAS regulation sets a very high bar for international digital signature legislation.
By complying with the Advanced Electronic Signature requirements of this EU law, our signatures also meet the less stringent requirements of other international laws, including the Australian Electronic Transactions Act, the US E-SIGN and others.
Employers
How can I check a person’s academic documents using Digitary?
To verify a learner’s Digitary-enabled documents, the Learner needs to share them with you. The simplest way to do this is to ask the Learner to generate a ‘URL share’ – this is a unique URL that starts with “https://core.digitary.net” and points to the trusted Digitary CORE portal. The URL can be emailed directly to you from the Digitary CORE portal, or the learner can send it to you directly. Always make sure that the URL starts with “https://core.digitary.net”, or, for institutions still using Digitary’s older platform, starts with the URL of the issuing institution.
For organisations that verify large numbers of Digitary records, we offer more sophisticated verification options.
For more information, please contact our enquiry lead here.
Can I receive certified academic documents any other way?
Yes. For organisations that verify large numbers of Digitary records, we provide additional verification options.

Rather than issuing documents all year round, Digitary enables education institutions to consolidate document production into a few hours or days per year.
After that, learners and graduates can access their documents and share them with third parties around the world, without needing to bother your records department again.
