Digital Badges available to Irish Higher Education sector

EduCampus and Digitary have partnered to provide institutions in the Irish Higher Education sector, the ability to issue Digital Badges through the Digitary ‘Student Credentials System’ solution

EduCampus and Digitary are excited to announce an additional feature under the collaborative framework agreement, enabling all EduCampus clients from Irish higher education institutions to be able to adopt Digital Badges. Sitting alongside the existing Digitary CORE solution for the issuance of academic credentials, such as degree certificates, academic transcripts, European Diploma Supplements (EDS) and other official academic documents; Digital Badges enables institutions to recognise all kinds of learners skills, competencies and learning experiences. When combined, it helps institutions provide learners with a comprehensive digital record of achievements and qualifications.

Digital Badges are associated with micro-credentials, short courses, formal and non-formal learning; and are increasingly being used worldwide to fully articulate and recognise skills and achievements, complementing official academic awards. In current times, this has become more prevalent than ever, with the increased demands on shorter courses and flexible requirements to recognise learner competencies, that ultimately assist to service enterprise and learners with validated digital credentials.

EduCampus and Digitary are excited to announce an additional feature under the collaborative framework agreement, enabling all EduCampus clients from Irish higher education institutions to be able to adopt Digital Badges. When combined, it helps institutions provide learners with a comprehensive digital record of achievements and qualifications.

Based on the Open Badges standard, stewarded by IMS Global Learning Consortium, which promotes the vision of portability, Digitary have partnered with Badgr in developing Digital Badges through Digitary. This enhanced functionality for institutions availing of the Irish ‘Student Credentials System’ solution, facilitates the capability to provide learners with lifelong access to all of their credentials, macro and micro, supporting further study and employment applications.

Following on from the announcement that EduCampus and Digitary have extended their existing ‘Student Credentials System’ agreement to the end 2023, the agreement now extends to also include Digital Badges to participating institutions on Digitary CORE. Institutions wishing to onboard Digital Badges are invited to contact EduCampus and confirm their onboarding requirements.

Currently the following Higher Education institutions in Ireland are utilising Digitary CORE for the digital issuance of verified student credentials through the ‘Student Credentials System’ agreement: University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, Athlone Institute of Technology, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Galway May Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Carlow, Institute of Technology Dún Laoghaire Inst. Art & Design, Institute of Technology Sligo, Munster Technological University (Tralee), Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Limerick Institute of Technology, Technological University Dublin (Blanchardstown), Technological University Dublin (Tallaght) and Waterford Institute of Technology.

These institutions continue to move towards greater support of their students lifelong learning journey, with the capability to enhance the recognition of all learning experiences through the adoption and use of Digital Badges.
